Jagorony Theatre to premiere ‘Kadamati’

Jagorony Theatre is set to stage its 21st production titled "Kadamati", following an extensive rehearsal phase and technical preview. The play will premiere on July 4 at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mohila Samity. Written by Aniket Pal and directed by Debashish Ghosh, the play brings forth an intimate narrative of displacement and longing.
The inaugural show of "Kadamati" will be graced by Professor Abdus Selim, President of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) Bangladesh. Also expected to attend are Babul Biswas, Founding General Secretary of Bangladesh Theatre Archive, and Abdul Kader Talukdar, former Deputy Director of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Actor Smaran Saha will appear in a solo performance in the play. Sharing his thoughts, he said, "'Kadamati' reflects stories from our lives. This is my first time performing a solo piece on stage, and it's a major challenge for me. I've prepared myself accordingly."

Director Debashish Ghosh explained, "'Kadamati' tells the story of those who leave their roots in search of new ground. Driven by dreams of a better life, modern comforts, or security in old age, many leave their birthplace for unfamiliar lands—only to realise that the soil there is harsher, more isolating. Amid the towering buildings, we often feel invisible, losing our identities while chasing dreams in the city. We forget to return to our roots."
He further added, "This has been the human experience through generations. People constantly grow new roots, reshape their lives, and evolve with time. Life never remains in one place. And yet, at the end of every road, we all long for a new horizon. That is the story this play tells."
The production team includes Palash Hendry Sen in set and light design, Ramiz Razu in sound design, Shahana Jahan Siddiqua, Sajid Ahmed Rony, and Shreya Saha Swarna in projection, with Azim Uddin as production director.
