Tea workers' leaders to sit with state minister for labour on Thursday

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian will hold a meeting with tea workers' leaders on Thursday (August 25, 2022) to resolve the ongoing crisis demanding an increase in the wages of tea workers.
The Department of Labour took initiative to arrange the meeting at the Shrom Bhaban at 3:00 pm on August 25, said a press release signed by Labour and Employment Deputy Secretary Dr Mohammad Abdul Quader today (August 22, 2022).
State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian will preside over the meeting, said the release.
The workers of 167 tea estates across the country on August 9, 2022, enforced a two-hour work abstention from 9:00 am to 11:00 am daily demanding a pay hike.
After four days, they went on an indefinite work abstention.
However, today, a section of the workers withdrew their protest and returned to work on the assurance of talks with the prime minister. Another section is continuing the movement.
