MPs to get NAM flats soon

Apartment blocks built in the city for foreign dignitaries at the Non-aligned Movement (NAM) Summit would be allotted to the Members of the Parliament soon.

Deputy Speaker Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui told the Jatiya Sangsad last night he hoped each MP would be allotted a comfortable NAM flat by July.

Taking part in the discussion Jatiya Party lawmaker Moshiur Rahman Ranga said he would withdraw his cut motion on Housing and Public Works Minister Mirza Abbas' proposed revenue expenditure in housing sector provided he got assurance for a flat. Ranga said he was in need of a good residence.

In response, Mirza Azam said funds constraint delayed completion of NAM flats.

The cozy apartment block was built opposite to the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban to accommodate delegates of NAM Summit scheduled to be held in Dhaka in 2002.
