BCL urges DU authorities
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of the Awami League, yesterday protested the proposed budget of Dhaka University and demanded more allocation for education and students' welfare.

The BCL also demanded an increase in allocation for transport, healthcare and IT education.

The Bcl leaders at a press conference at the Dhaka University Centre for Students Union (DUCSU) building, said there is no allocation to solve the transport problem of the students in the present budget.

Only Tk 28.30 lakh has been allocated for medical centre for 28 thousand students, they said adding service of the centre is very poor.

The BCL leaders said DU authorities have allocated a big amount for DUCSU and hall unions though there are no activities since 1990.

The DU authorities always talked about the development of information technology but allocated only Tk 4 lakh to the IT institute for purchasing computers, they added.

The BCL leaders said they would submit a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor Prof SMA Faiz on July 6 in this regard.

They also threatened to lay siege to University Grants Commission (UGC) and education ministry if their demands were not met immediately.

The BCL DU unit President Delwar Hossain read out the written statement.
