Recover PSC, or recognise CSP

This refers to the news item under the above heading that is the much-talked topic at the moment. On Friday, the 26th September '03, the recruitment test for the post of sub-registrar was held on the basis of leaked question. Earlier, the 24th BCS preliminary exam, held on 28th February '03, was canceled and subsequent one was not. Now it is almost established that the recruitment tests under the PSC is conducted on leaked question. This is open, not open secret.

The PSC chairman does not bear any risk and responsibility as the post is political, for which the incumbent had to face many odds springing from our political atmosphere. But what are the functions of the Public Service Commission? Public Service Commission is established under the article 137 of our constitution where the functions of the Commission are stipulated.

To conduct tests and examinations for the selection of suitable persons for appointment to the services of the Republic is the first and foremost duty of the PSC. But lackluster performances with respect to the conduct of examinations should be treated harshly to avoid the PSC being stigmatised as 'Public Service of Corruption"

If timely and effective initiative is not seen to regain its lost glory and the implementation of its objective, the nation will suffer. We will urge the authority to either recover the PSC or recognise the CSP
