Jail-Killing Day tomorrow
Staff Correspondent
Jail-Killing Day will be observed across the country tomorrow to condemn the slaying of four national leaders inside Dhaka Central Jail on this day in 1975. The Awami League (AL) and its front organisations have chalked out various programmes to pay homage to the slain leaders. Some disgruntled army men gunned down Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, M Qamaruzzaman and M Mansur Ali -- four close associates of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman -- on November 3, 1975. In observance of the day, the AL will hoist the national and party flags at half-mast. Black flags will be flown at party offices across the country. Leaders and workers would wear black badges to mourn the gruesome killings. The day's programmes also include placing wreaths at Bangabandhu's portrait and the graves of the national leaders at Banani graveyard and offering fateha. The main opposition will also organise milad mahfils and special prayers across the country to mark the day. The party will also hold a discussion meeting at the auditorium of Engineers Institute, Bangladesh in the city tomorrow with AL President Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
