DU Violence
Syndicate to take action against four

Dhaka University (DU) Syndicate yesterday decided to take action against two Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and two Bangladesh Chhatra League activists for their involvement in campus violence on May 28.

The syndicate took the decision after discussing an interim report submitted by a six-member probe body headed by DU Treasurer Prof Syed Rashidul Hasan that accused the four students.

Three syndicate members -- Prof Kazi Shahidullah, Prof Sadeka Halim and Rahmat Ullah -- gave note of decent on the decision, saying that the report was not based on facts and it lacks adequate information.

Vice Chancellor Prof SMA Faiz chaired the meeting.

Talking to The Daily Star last night, Prof Rashidul Hasan said they submitted the interim report at the Senate on June 27. But it was a partial report.

"We will sit again on July 2 to discuss the incidents and we have invited student leaders at the meeting," he added.
