CPB against alliance with AL
Staff Correspondent
The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) President Manjurul Ahsan Khan and General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim in a statement yesterday said they want simultaneous movement with the main opposition Awami League (AL) not any alliance."CPB is committed to strengthen simultaneous movement of the opposition AL, left 11-Party Alliance, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal(JSD) and National Awami Party (NAP) against the government keeping its separate political identity," they said. CPB will continue its movement against the misrule and misdeeds of the present government, they added. CPB will not support any proposal of forming three-tier unity movement, election and formation of government, they said. The leftist leaders said we have some differences with the AL proposals for reforms in election system. "One of the main demands of the left parties (11-party alliance) is to introduce proportional representation in the election instead of the existing one, but the AL in its draft omitted the issue," they said. The CPB leaders urged the AL, 11-party alliance, JSD and NAP to launch vigorous anti-government movement to eliminate all communal forces in the country as well as to oust the BNP-led four-party alliance for safeguarding the country and people. They also urged all progressive, left leaning, liberal, patriotic and intellectuals to be united to forge an alternative political force against the backdrop of BNP and AL bipolar politics in the country.
