Tengratila Blowout
Compensation for victims demanded

Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) yesterday held protest rally and procession at Tengratila in Sunamganj demanding compensation from Niko for the victims of the gas blowout.The party also demanded punishment to corrupt ministers, bureaucrats and commission agents for signing unequal contracts with Niko and their cancellation. Speakers at the rally expressed grave concern at the failure of the authorities concerned to douse the fire which is causing severe damage to life, property and environment of the area. They also blamed the alliance government for not taking any action against those responsible for the incident. CPB leaders Comrade Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed, Azharul Islam Arzoo, and Mihir Biswas were present at the rally presided over by Chittaranjan Talukdar. CPB also organised a rally and procession at Badda and Abdullahpur in the city as part of its 'Demand Week' programme from July 8 to 14. Speakers at the rally demanded reforms of Election Commission and electoral process to ensure free and fair election. They said the people are now fed up with the misrule of the alliance government and they want to get rid of it. But mere removal of the government is not enough to change the fate of the public, they said, adding that "We have to change the policy." CPB leaders Morshed Ali, Mahabub Alam, Advocate Sohel Ahmed, Abdul Zabbar, Ruhul Amin, Rawshan Ali and Haji Zaman spoke at the rally.
