JP (Manju) condemns police action

The Jatiya Party (Manju) yesterday strongly condemned the killing of an opposition activist in police firing, injuring of over 100 others and mass arrests during the 14-party's countrywide blockade programme.

In a statement, JP Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju and Secretary General Sheikh Shahidul Islam said such police action on opposition leaders and activists to suppress agitating people will only add fuel to political tension and conflicts.

The demand for electoral reforms and resignation of the chief election commissioner is now a national demand, they said and called for an immediate dialogue to resolve the prevailing crisis.

They also demanded proper treatment facilities for the injured and release of all the arrestees.

They called for proper investigation into the police firing and punishment to those responsible for the incident.
