A snapshot of Bangladesh for the community of the Netherlands
Bangladesh House, the official residence of Bangladesh Ambassador to the Netherlands, arranged a programme to showcase the arts and heritage of Bangladesh for the diplomatic community in the Netherlands. The diplomatic representatives immersed themselves into the Bangladeshi culture, and learned about the country's fashion, tribal heritage, wedding traditions, and women and children.
As part of the regular programme of Ambassadors' Spouse Association's (ASA), spouses of 20 Ambassadors based in the Netherlands gathered at Bangladesh House on June 27 2018. As an active member of ASA, Dr. Dilruba Nasrin, a renowned epidemiologist and spouse of Bangladesh Ambassador in the Netherlands organised this get together. The main objective of this program was presenting the rich culture of Bangladesh to the ASA members. The spouse of the Deputy Mayor of The Hague also attended the programme.
Dr. Nasrin delivered a presentation on the timely issue of the Rohingyas. She flagged important points such as how the sufferings of the Rohingyas who are the most persecuted community in the world, is a clear example of ethnic cleansing, how vulnerable women and children could be in this crisis and the five point proposal of the Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resolve the issue.
A 'mock' wedding and gaye holud was also arranged.
Later, interested guests participated in a saree wearing task, and they also enjoyed Bangladeshi cuisine.
The event not only showcased the rich culture of Bangladesh, but also encouraged the invitees to do their part for the Rohingya crisis.
