Cultural fairs held in Manikganj

A three-day Baul music event, Madhur Mela, began at Joymantap in Manikganj on January 1. Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud formally inaugurated the event.

Lawmaker from Manikganj-2 Constituency and renowned folk singer Momtaz Begum, MP, Manikganj Zila Parishad’s Chairman Golam Mohiuddin, Deputy Director of Local Government Fauzia Khan, Additional Superintendent of Police Mohiuddin Ahmed Mukul, Singhair Upazila Nirbahi Officer Raghela Rahmat Ullah, were present at the inauguration. Renowned singers Kajol Dewan, Fakir Shabuddin and many others from across Bangladesh performed on the opening day. Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud spoke at the programme. Momtaz Begum has been arranging this event since 2001, in memory of her father, Baul singer Modhu Boyati.

On the other side, a ten-day literary and cultural fair began at Manikganj Government High School on January 1.  Health and Family Welfare Minister Jahid Maleaque Sawapam, MP formally inaugurated the event. Manikganj Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdaus, Police Superintendent Rifat Rahman Shamim, Manikganj Municipality Mayor Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, Former Mayor Md Ramzan Ali, were present at the inauguration. Manikganj district administration organised the ten-day fair in observance of Mujib Barsha.
