Ahead of their Asia Cup opener against Sri Lanka today in Dubai, Bangladesh got a minor scare as wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim experienced pain in his ribs, but team manager Khaled Mahmud said that he should be okay to play.
"He has had this problem in his ribs for a while," Mahmud told The Daily Star. "He experienced pain yesterday during training, but inshAllah he will play today."
Bangladesh have had some injury worries leading up to the regional cricket extravaganza. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been nursing an injury to his left little finger since January, opener Tamim Iqbal has had trouble with his right ring finger and both have been managing the injuries with pain medication. Young batsman Nazmul Hossain had dislocated his right index finger during fielding practice in Dhaka prior to the team's departure.
It is thought that Shakib and Tamim are ready to play the all-important opener. Bangladesh fans will hope that Mushfiqur, as important a member as any in the Bangladesh lineup, proves the manager right and makes it out to the field today.
