Mushfiqur Rahim was stranded at 112 unbeaten when Mustafizur Rahim fell to a rather silly run out. Mushfiqur's face fell, knowing that it was the last wicket since Tamim Iqbal had already gone off the field with a fractured hand.
Sri Lanka were already celebrating what they thought was the last Bangladesh wicket when Tamim Iqbal caught everyone by surprise and decided to come out to bat again at No. 11. It provided the lasting memory of Bangladesh's 137-run win as Tamim faced up to Suranga Lakmal with a broken wrist and fended off a short-length delivery with just the top hand.
Mushfiqur managed to add 32 more runs on the board after Tamim came in and was chosen as the player-of-the-match. At the post-match ceremony, the right-handed batsman paid tribute to Tamim. The left-hander's dedication to the team's cause, ignited the fire inside Mushfiqur, who played some blistering shots to go along with some rather inventive and cheeky efforts.
"(I was) really surprised to see Tamim come to bat, it's a great gesture," said Rahim after being declared Player of the Match. "When I saw him, it boosted me to do something for him and for my country."
He also reiterated that his 144-run knock, which contained 11 fours and four sixes was probably the best of his career.
"Probably the best I've batted because it's difficult to concentrate with the heat and the running between the wickets as well."
While he has had played a number of great innings and been among the runs in recent times, Mushfiqur acknowledged the fact that he has not always been able to convert his good starts into really big scores. This time he said that the hard work finally paid off.
"We've been in great nick, but I haven't been able to convert my starts into big innings. So that's paid off," he concluded.
