Bangladesh batsman Mushfiqur Rahim became the third player from the country to reach 5,000 ODI runs.
He reached the landmark when a top-edged hook shot off Afghanistan pacer Gulbadin Naib flew over the wicketkeeper's head for four during their Asia Cup Super Four match in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
Tamim Iqbal was the first Bangladesh player to reach the mark, followed by Shakib Al Hasan.
Mushfiqur passed the landmark in his 176th innings and in his 190th match. Among the three Bangladeshis to traverse the mark, Mushfiqur has taken the most innings. He has hit 29 half-centuries and six centuries, the last of which was a career-best 144 in the 2018 Asia Cup opener against Sri Lanka on September 15.
Tamim was the fastest Bangladeshi batsman – in terms of innings -- to reach the mark on October 12, 2016 in the second ODI against England in Chittagong. It was his 158th innings and at that time he had scored seven hundreds and 33 half-centuries. Tamim averaged 32.4 when he reached the mark.
Shakib crossed 5,000 runs in his 168th innings, during the first ODI against South Africa in Kimberley on October 15, 2017. He averaged 34.84 when he passed the mark.
Mushfiqur has scored the most runs against Zimbabwe so far, hammering 1203 runs from just 43 matches at an average of 38.8 with two hundreds and seven fifties. He has been the most consistent against England, having scored 441 runs in 11 matches at an average off 44.1, hitting four half-centuries in the process.
