BNP candidate for Dhaka-4 Salahuddin Ahmed today claimed that he and some of his supporters were assaulted when they went to visit a centre in the capital this morning.
While visiting Shyampur Model School and College centre around 9:15am Salauddin found no BNP agent, said the candidate’s supporter Alauddin, who also sustained injuries during the incident.
When asked about BNP agents, the presiding officer and cops deployed there locked into an altercation with Salauddin, he said.
“At one stage, policemen beat up Salahuddin and three to four of his supporters,” Alauddin claimed.
Denying the allegation, Presiding Officer Rezaul Karim Palash said, “BNP did not send agents at the centre. Now Salauddin came up with false allegation.”
“He went to his residence and came back in a blood-stained dress. Nothing happened here,” the presiding officer claimed.
However, our correspondent saw Ansar men cleaning blood marks at the polling centre.
Echoing the presiding officer, Deputy Commissioner of DMP (Wari Zone) Farid Uddin said, “We went to visit Salahuddin at Asgar Ali Hospital and saw bandage on his leg. He might have fallen from the stairs at one stage of scuffle with AL agents.”
This correspondent visited eight centres till 10:30am and did not find BNP or Oikyafront agents in six of them.
At the two centres where the agents were found, they could not tell the name of the BNP candidates.
