While motor-driven vehicles, including public and private transports, have been banned on election day only, the ban on motorcycles will be on for three days.
Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) issued the ban today ahead of the general election on December 30, which will take effect from 12:01am on the day and continue for 24 hours.
The ban will be applicable on motor-run three-wheelers, auto-rickshaws, bike, taxi cab, microbus, jeep, pickup, car, bus, truck, tempo, and easy bike and locally made different types of vehicles driven by motor.
Apart from this, it is said in the notification that the ban will have also to be imposed on motorcycles from December 28 midnight to January 1 midnight.
The ban will be relaxed for the candidates, their agents, local and foreign observers with having approvals from the returning officers and ID cards under their possessions.
The ban will also be relaxed for the media vehicles to be used for local and foreign newsmen on condition of having their ID cards, it said.
Besides, the vehicles of the officials who will be engaged in election duties, law enforcement agencies, ambulance, fire service and civil defence, electricity, gas and telecom will be kept out of purview of the ban.
The home and information ministries have been asked to take necessary steps to enforce the ban to make the efforts successful.
