Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, a Jatiya Oikyafront candidate from Shariatpur-3 constituency, and five others were sued today for allegedly distributing over Tk 8 crore to influence the coming election and instigate violence.
The accused are: Joynal Abedin, general manager of Amena Enterprise & Services Trust Ltd, its Manager Alamgir Hossain and Ali Haider alias Nafiz, managing director of United Enterprise and Corporation, its chairman Mahmudul Hassan and their office assistant Atiqur Rahman alias Atiq.
Apu is also the owner of the Amena Enterprise & Services Trust Ltd.
Rapid Action Battalion filed the case with Motijheel Police Station accusing the six of distributing alleged seized money among the people to instigate violence.
Meantime, a Dhaka court today placed Joynal Abedin, Alamgir Hossain and Ali Haider alias Nafiz on a five-day remand each after Sub-Inspector Md Faruque Hossain of Motijheel Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case produced them with a 10-day remand prayer.
In the today’s remandprayer, the IO said the accused were directly involved with conspiring against the state and creating sabotage by distributing the alleged seized money among the criminals. So, they need to be remanded to find out the fugitives responsible for committing such offences, the IO added.
Opposing the remand prayer, defence submitted a petition seeking bail along with cancellation of the remand prayer, saying that their clients were implicated in the case as part of a conspiracy to harass them.
Rab sources said acting on intelligence information, the elite force raided United Corporation around 2:00am on Tuesday and arrested Ali Haider.
Gleaning information from Haider, the Rab raided Amena Enterprise and detained the two others.
According to the case statement, it was allegedthat the three were part of its attempt to foil an evil design to deteriorate law and order and titling the election in favour of a certain quarter.
