24 beehives at polling centre in Jamalpur; voters fear possible bee attacks

Voters of a polling centre in Jamalpur -2 constituency are worried to cast their votes fearing a possible attack by wild bees on the election day as 24 beehives have been found there.

Shajalerchar Government Primary School at Chinarchar village under Charputimari union in Islampur upazila has been set as a polling centre for conducting election of the constituency, said sources of the returning office.

A total of 4,600 voters from Chinarchar and Pecharchar villages will cast their votes in favour of their desired candidates at the polling centre.

But the voters are in deep concern as they may come under the attacks of bees when they will be waiting for casting their votes before the polling centre on the election day, said a number of voters including local Awami League leader Samsuzzaman Selim and Sufia Begum, woman vice-chairman of Islampur Upazila Parishad, also resident of Chinarchar village.

“If some unscrupulous people or curious boys disturb the bees by hurling brick chips on their hives, the bees will become violent instantly and then the troubled wild bees will start hurting people awaiting to cast their votes with their strings,” said Sufia, adding, “If it happens so, the voters will be facing severe hurdles to cast their votes.”

“The bee-hives should immediately be removed from the polling centre so that voters can be free from the tension to come under the possible attack by the wild bees on December 30 electons,” she suggested.

Local university student Mukhlesur Rahman said he had informed the returning office of the matter on Tuesday, but the office is yet to take any step.

Ahmed Kabir, deputy commissioner of Jamalpur, also RO said he had directed Islampur upzila administration to take steps in this regard.

But the administration did not solve the problem as of filing this report at 6.00pm.
