Bangladesh Jatiya Party candidate for Dhaka-17 Andaleeve Rahman Partho yesterday filed a writ petition with the High Court, challenging the candidacy of Awami League contender Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque, claiming that he is bank loan defaulter.
In the petition, Andaleeve prayed to the HC to stay the Election Commission's decision to allow Farooque's candidacy.
Petitioner's lawyer Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal told The Daily Star that his client filed the writ petition saying Farooque Dying and Manufacturing Ltd, owned by Farooque, is a loan defaulter of more than Tk 5,000 crore from Sonali Bank, and therefore, he is not eligible to contest the election.
