The ban on public and private transport on the election day is taking a heavy toll on the public, former chief election commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda said today.
“We have many elderly members in our families. Some of them can hardly walk because of their illnesses. In such situation, going to the voting centres without any vehicle is very difficult,” he said after casting his vote at Gulshan Model High School and College this morning.
Measures should have been taken to make it easier for the voters to reach the polling booths, he added.
The former CEC also said this will be a challenging election, as there is no record of a free and fair election to take place under a partisan government.
