Professor and Chair of NSU's Department of History and Philosophy Dr M Emdadul Haque Passes Away
Dr M Emdadul Haque, Professor and Chair of the Department of History and Philosophy of North South University (NSU) died of cardiac arrest at United Hospital this afternoon. He was 67.
Expressing grief over his death, NSU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Atiqul Islam said, "Dr Haque was not only a distinguished scholar and a dedicated educator but also a cherished colleague and friend to many of us. His contributions to our institution and the field of history and philosophy have left an indelible mark, and his loss will be deeply felt by us all including the international academic community"
Dr Haque has been involved in teaching at leading public and private universities in the country for the last 38 years. In addition to teaching, he also provided in-depth professional & research training to mid-level & senior civil servants at the leading institutions in the country, including National Defence College (NDC), & Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy (BCSAA).
After completing his Master's from the University of Waterloo in Canada, Dr Haque joined the teaching profession at Chittagong University in 1982. He received his Ph.D. from La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. In 2004, he was appointed as the founding chairman of the Department of International Relations at Chittagong University. In 2007, he joined Brac University as chairman of the Institute of Governance Studies (IGS). In 2010, he took over as chairman of NSU's Department of General and Continuing Education. In 2019, he was named chairman of NSU's Department of History and Philosophy.
Dr Haque's published books include Drugs in South Asia: From the Opium Trade to the Present; Transparency, Openness, & Ethics in Public Governance; Colonial Drug Trade in South Asia: from Palashi to Partition; Comparative Political Systems; The Politics: Basic Understanding; Madokashakti: Jatio O Bishwa Poriprekhhit; Comparative Political Analysis. His research was also featured in numerous national and international journals.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at the NSU plaza area at 7:45 PM on 3 September.
