2 women charged with murder of Eden college ex-principal
A Dhaka court today accepted the charges brought against two women in connection with murder of a former principal of Eden Mohila College Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin in February.
After scrutinising the case dockets and other documents, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saiduzzaman Sharif accepted the charges.
The charge sheeted accused are -- Rita Akhtar alias Swapna, 35, and Ruma alias Reshma, 30, both of them were housemaids of the former principal’s house.
Earlier on August 2, Alamgir Hossain Mazumder, sub-inspector of New Market Police Station and also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka.
In the charge sheet, the IO said the accused planned and carried out the killing of former principal Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin with an intent to loot gold ornaments and money.
On February 10, police recovered the body of Parvin from her apartment at Sukanya Tower in the capital’s Elephant Road.
After the murder, the family reported that their two housemaids went missing along with gold, valuables and money.
On the next day, a case was filed against the two domestic helpers with New Market Police in connection with the murder.
During the investigation, the duo made confessional statements before magistrates on different dates.
