Girl’s residence burnt for refusing marriage in Narsingdi
Miscreants set fire to the house of a 14yr old girl allegedly for refusing a marriage proposal in Narsingdi early today.
Earlier on Thursday, the girl was allegedly picked up by her neighbor Masum, 22, son of Dud Mia, and four of his associates in Baherchar village of Najarpur union in Sadar upazila, said Md Abul Kasem, officer-in-charge of Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station.
She was rescued from Masum’ residence by her guardians on the condition that they will settle the issue later, our Narsingdi correspondent reports quoting the police official.
Later in an arbitrary meeting last night, Masum threatened the girl's family that their houses would be burnt if the marriage proposal was not accepted.
Hours after threat, Masum along with his associates carried out the arson attack that gutted three rooms and most of the furniture, the OC said.
A case has been filed with Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station in this connection and efforts were on to arrest the culprits, he added.
