Black vulture rescued in Gaibandha
With help of locals, police rescued a black vulture from Ramchandrapur union under Sadar upazila in Gaibandha yesterday evening.
The vulture was injured and given treatment by a veterinarian, said Khan Md Shahriar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station.
"Now the bird is doing well and we have informed the forest department officials", the OC told our Bogura correspondent.
Black vulture or Cinereous vulture is a near threatened bird across the world according to the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) status, said Sarowar Alam Dipu, senior programme officer of IUCN.
This species of migratory birds comes to Bangladesh from Europe and Middle East, he added.
A team of IUCN was already sent to Gaibandha to take the bird to Vulture rescue Centre at Singra National Reserve Forest in Dinajpur, Dipu said.
