Incited by ‘Crime Patrol’, 2 youths kill 10-yr-old boy
Rab today claimed to have arrested two youths, who being incited by Indian TV serial “Crime Patrol” killed a 10-year-old boy after abduction in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.
Parvej Shikdar, 18 and Md Foisal Ahmed, 19, on December 5 abducted Sadman Iqbal Rakin, 10, son of Syed Shamim Iqbal, an engineer of Gazipur Municipality, said Lt Col Sarowar Bin Kashem of Rab-1.
Within two hours of the abduction, the duo took Rakin to a nearby bamboo grove and strangled him to death, the Rab official said at a press briefing at Rab Media Centre in Karwan Bazar area this noon.
Then, they called the father of the victim and demanded Tk 10 lakh for ransom.
Following the ransom call, Rakin’s family filed an abduction case with Sreepur Police Station.
Among the two killers, Parvej is a neighbour of the victim’s family who was staying with them as a lodging teacher of Rakin, Major Md Rakibuzzaman told The Daily Star.
Parvej and his friend Foisal were planning the murder for more than six months. “They planned it watching Crime Patrol on TV, the duo admitted during primary investigation,” the major said.
Parvej had stolen Rakin’s mother’s mobile phone six months ago and kept it switched off. He only switched on the mobile to make the ransom call, Rakibuzzaman revealed.
Following the trail of the mobile number, a team of Rab-1 conducted a 36-hour operation in the area and arrested the duo on the night of December 15, the Rab official said.
