12-ft-long python rescued in Bagerhat

A python was rescued from a pen housing ducks and swans in Bagerhat's Sarankhola upazila this morning.

Around 7am today, members of the Community Patrolling Group (CPG) rescued the python from the residence of Abdur Razzak Hawladar of Sonatala village near Sundarbans in Sarankhola.

The python was later released into the jungle in the Sundarbans, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.

Abdur Razzak Hawlader said, "We were confused by the strange calls of ducks and chickens in the morning. When I unlocked the ducks' cage and spotted a python lying there. Later, I informed CPG members and they rescued the python. It devoured three swans and a duck."

According to CPG team leader Khalil Jamaddar, after being taken out of the duck's cage, four carcasses of ducks and swans were retrieved from the snake's belly.

Asaduzzaman, East Sundarbans Sharankhola station officer, said that the python was 12-feet-long and weighed roughly 16 kgs.
