'Animals dying in safari parks since climate of countries of origin vary from ours'
Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said that the foreign animals at safari parks and zoos in the country are dying after being infected with diseases.
He made this remark today while talking to journalists during the foundation laying programme of the Institute of Livestock Science and Technology in Sylhet city's Tilagarh area.
"The climate and environment of the foreign animals' home country are not similar to ours which is why they are being infected with diseases," the minister said when asked about the deaths of zebras and other animals at Gazipur Safari Park.
"A disease killed the zebras. Similarly, zoo animals are dying after contracting various diseases, according to lab reports. Diseases, not negligence, are to blame for the deaths," said the minister.
"We are also looking into the matter to see if there is any negligence on our part. Besides, we are working to ensure that these animals are safe. Different ministries are collaborating to ensure that no wildlife is killed and the environment and climate are not harmed," he said.
