Tiger found dead in Sundarbans canal
The forest department recovered a tiger's carcass from a Sundarbans canal yesterday afternoon.
The tiger, aged between 15 and 16, bore no signs of injuries. It may have died of old age, said Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer at the Sundarbans east forest department.
He said a tiger may live for 15-18 years.
Forest rangers found the carcass floating in Rupar canal adjacent to Dublar char in the Sharankhola range and recovered it, Belayet said.
The carcass is taken to Sharankhola range office this morning. An autopsy of the tiger will be conducted to know the cause of its death, he added.
In February 2020, a tiger's carcass was recovered from the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world.
The carcass was found along Kabarkhali canal in Sharankhola range.
