Tiger possibly died due to old age
The tiger, which was found dead at Rupar canal adjacent to Dublar Char in the Sharankhola Range of the eastern Sundarbans yesterday, possibly died due to old age, said forest officials.
The autopsy of the tiger was conducted at the Sharankhola Range office this noon, said Md Tofazzal Hossain, animal resources officer of Sharankhola upazila.
He said the 9ft tall tiger's age would be 16 to 17 years and there is no injury mark on its body.
It might have died due to old age, he added.
Mentioning the same reason behind the tiger's death, Mohammad Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer (DFO) of Sundarbans East Forest department, said the carcass of the tiger has been sent to Karamjal, a wildlife breeding centre.
Higher authorities will decide whether it would be buried or not, he added.
