Tigers, lions in good health in Gazipur Safari Park: Vet surgeon
Nine tigers and eight lions at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur are in good health while another lion is being treated for an illness.
Mostafizur Rahman, veterinary surgeon of the safari park in Gazipur confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.
The ill lion was being given medication. It was suffering from old age-related complications and cold weather, he said.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department collected samples of the dead animals.
Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury, in-charge of the park, said the park has nine tigers after a tiger died of anthrax.
The park also has the same number of lions after the death of a lioness, he told our Gazipur Correspondent.
Eleven zebras, one tiger, and one lioness died from January 2 to February 3, which the park authority hushed up.
The incidents came to light on January 30 prompting the environment, forest, and climate change ministry to withdraw three officers and form an investigation committee to unearth the causes behind the death of the animals.
