Find out reasons behind deaths of 33 animals at Sylhet eco park: HC to govt
The High Court today directed the government to form an enquiry committee to find out the reasons behind the deaths of 33 animals and birds at the wildlife conservation centre in Tilagarh Eco Park of Sylhet and the persons responsible for the deaths.
The court also ordered the authorities concerned to form a separate special unit with relevant medical staff at the conservation centre for proper treatment of the animals.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why their failure to protect the lives of animals and birds should not be declared illegal.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mustafizur Rahman came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Manoj Kumar Bhowmick seeking a necessary order.
He submitted the writ petition today following a report published in The Daily Star on March 3 with the headline "Sylhet Wildlife Conservation Centre: A condemned cell for animals".
