Argentina were dumped out of the World Cup after poor first displays where the team lacked the cohesion and togetherness to pull through against relatively easy opponents. Then Jorge Sampaoli’s men came up against a French side that gave them a reality check with a 4-3 hammering.
Cohesion was one of Argentina’s biggest problem at this World Cup. While they lacked some of the profiles to complement Sampaoli’s style, the coach ended up not using the likes of Lo Celso and Paulo Dybala in his lineup which lead to further criticism.
Sampaoli is reportedly getting the sack from his coach role and according to Pablo Cecchini, journalist of TN Deportivo, the job will be offered to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
The Catalan has a contract with Manchester City till 2021 and the claims being made sound outlandish given that Guardiola had in the past said that national teams should be coached by managers from the same nationality.
However, Guardiola was also reportedly interested in the Brazil job back in 2014. "Before the World Cup, Pep wanted to coach the Brazil side but they weren't keen," Brazil full-back Dani Alves had told Bola de Vez.
As per reports from Cecchini, Guardiola will be offered 12 million dollars per year.
Guardiola has a good relationship with team captain Lionel Messi, having coached the Argentine playmaker during his stint as coach of FC Barcelona.
