Former Germany international Stefan Effenberg said he would prefer Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic over the Brazil superstar Neymar and said that the 32-year old striker would be worth a staggering €200 million if he was younger.
Mandzukic was the nation’s hero as he scored the late extra-time winner in their 2-1 win over England in the semi-final of the World Cup 2018 and helped Croatia to book their place in the final of the tournament for the first time ever. After being down by one goal in the game, courtesy of a Kieren Trippier’s 5th minute freekick, Croatia leveled the score through a strike from Ivan Perisic in the second-half of the game before Mandzukic’s extra-time strike sealed the victory for the Croats.
Mandzukic has scored twice in the World Cup 2018 at Russia after having enjoyed another fine season at Juventus.
Former Bayern Munich star Effenberg penned for T-Online and mentioned that he considers Mandzukic to be among the three best players in the World and also said that he would prefer the 32-year old striker 10 times before the Brazil superstar Neymar.
“I never understood why Bayern sold him,” he wrote for T-Online .
“Mandzukic is one of three three best strikers in the world for me. He is working for the team and also scored the goal against England.
“If he were not so old, he would have a market value of €200m. I would prefer him 10 times better than a Neymar.” Effenberg concluded.
