Morgan celebrates England’s diversity

England captain was in a jovial mood as the hosts finally got their hands on the World Cup title, defeating New Zealand in the final after what was possibly the greatest game of cricket with heart-stopping moments coupled with heroes and tragic heroes.

Luck was certainly on England’s side at the death of the game, and asked about the fine margins that separated the two teams -- New Zealand lost by zero runs in the 50-over affair and the Super Over also ended in a tie -- he acknowledged that his side had the rub of the green.

“We had Allah with us as well. I spoke to Adil, he said Allah was definitely with us. I said we had the rub of the green," he said smilingly in post-match press conference. England’s Muslim duo Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid along with Barbados-born Jofra Archer were vital in England’s World Cup success and Morgan himself is Irish-born. The England skipper rejoiced the diversity of the team and said that the mixture of different cultural backgrounds in the side helped lift them in difficult times.

“It actually epitomises our team. Quite diverse backgrounds and cultures and guys grow up in different countries and to actually find humour in the situation we were in at times was pretty cool,” Morgan concluded.
