My job is to score runs quickly: Sabbir

Bangladesh batsman Sabbir Rahman spoke of his role in the batting lineup ahead of the World Cup, slated to begin from May 30 in England. He has a clear mindset on what his job will be and that is to score quick runs.

Sabbir is known for his big-hitting style and is one of the Bangladesh batsmen who not only plays fast bowling well but can clear the boundary ropes easily. Bangladesh have managed to cross the 300-plus threshold only six times in the last four years and with the England World Cup set to be one where big runs will be scored, Bangladesh need that extra boost in the death end of their innings.

Rahman revealed his role, alongside fellow lower middle-order batsman Mosaddek Hossain, is to find the boundary in the death overs.

"My role is to play number six, seven or eight," he was quoted as saying in an ICC media release. 

"I like to score quickly and I will try to make sure we can put runs on the board as a team in the later overs. I think I want to bring some momentum to our innings.

"We expect Tamim to bat for 40 overs and if there's a good wicket, I can make it a bigger score.

"Our aim is to win the World Cup, but if we play good cricket, it'll be a successful tournament. We are taking it match-by-match," the right-hander said.

Bangladesh play India tomorrow at Cardiff in their second warm-up match after the first one against Pakistan was abandoned due to rain. Sabbir himself has not been able to get much batting practice throughout the series in Ireland and he was disappointed with the Pakistan match being abandoned. He is looking forward to spending some time in the middle during the game against India tomorrow and get a feel of things ahead of the World Cup.

"We are very disappointed we're not playing [Pakistan], but we had a good shift in Ireland and we're looking forward to the second game," he said.

"It's always important to have time in the middle, because we can aim to execute our plan and have an ideal preparation."

"Playing India, we are really happy. It's a good team to play in our first game.

"If we have a good match and I score runs personally, I will be more than happy," he concluded.
