Shoaib ‘speechless’ after Pakistan’s performance

Pakistan were skittled out for just 105 in their opening match of the 2019 Cricket World Cup against the West Indies and former Pakistan pace spearhead Shoaib Akhtar was left ‘speechless’ by the team’s batting performance.

Only four Pakistan batsmen reached double figures while Windies pacers ran riot with Oshane Thomas bagging four wickets and Jason Holder scalping three. Shoaib described Pakistan’s batting performance with just one word in a twitter post.

Captain Sarfraz Ahmed was optimistic about the team getting their act together with eight more matches to go.

“We lost some quick wickets in first ten overs and we couldn’t recover well from the early setback,” he was quoted as saying by The News.

“It wasn’t our day, it was just a bad day, we will try to move on from here and recover before next games. I am confident that the team will bounceback in next games,” the wicket-keeper batsman hoped.

Meanwhile former Pakistan player Misbah ul Haq was worrid about Mohammad Amir. The left-arm speedster bagged all three wickets that Pakistan took during the Windies innings but Misbah talked about Amir not having the presence needed.

“He got three wickets but I am worried about his form.

“Your team bundled out for 105 and your premier fast bowler comes in to bowl the first over but his average speed is 81. No swing, no bounce and the opposition just feels comfortable. You are not giving the presence that you are here to fight,” he told ESPNCricinfo.
