Bangladesh star Shakib Al Hasan suffered a Grade 1 strain on his left thigh which had rendered him doubtful for today's match against Sri Lanka. The Tigers did not have to play today after the match was abandoned due to rain and at a post-match press conference today, Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes was hopeful that Shakib will be fit for Bangladesh's next match.
Shakib has been in terrific form at this tournament becoming the highest run-scorer in the tournament so far and he suffered the strain during his ton against England in Bangladesh's last match.
The all-rounder received treatment from the physio at the end of the eighth over of the innings on Saturday, and while he hobbled during runs for two or three overs after that, he appeared to bat unfettered till he was out in the 40th over.
Tigers' next match is on May 17th against the Windies and with their medical team will have some time on their hand to get the ace all-rounder up and running ahead of the next game, said Rhodes.
"Yeah, so he picked up a little injury, as you all saw in that game against England. He fought on and battled on, and played extremely well with an injury.
"We're very, very optimistic that the treatment that he'll get this week and the way that he can recover well; we're very optimistic that he can play in that next game against West Indies," Rhodes said.
Shakib's lowest score in the three matches so far has been 64 against New Zealand. He is still the highest scorer in the World Cup with 260 runs. He has also taken three wickets.
