SA-WI match abandoned following rain

The World Cup match between West Indies and South Africa at The Rose Bowl, Southampton has been abandoned following rain.

West Indies had decided to bowl first after winning the toss and put South Africa on the back foot with two wickets. Sheldon Cottrell removed opener Hashim Amla and one-down batsman Aiden Markram before rain brought play to a halt. Initially there was hope that the rain will go away but it returned intermittently before the match was abandoned. The teams shared a point each. 

 

Rain stopped proceedings at Southampton after Windies paceman Sheldon Cottrell struck twice in the World Cup match agianst South Africa today.

Windies managed to bowl 7.3 overs and put South Africa in trouble with pace and movement. Hashim Amla was the first to go, surprised by the extra pace on offer and gloved a Cottrell delivery to the slip cordon in the third over. Aiden Markram left after trying to work a shorter delivery to fine leg by managing to nick it through to the wicket-keeper. After 7.3 overs, South Africa are 29/2.

 

West Indies win the toss and chose to bowl first in the match against South Africa.



South Africa lost three of the matches in the World Cup 2019 and are on the verge of an early exit. On the other hand, the West Indies won one against Pakistan and lost a thriller to Australia.
