A devastating fire gutted a chemical factory and its godown in Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) in the city's Mashkanda area yesterday morning.

Quoting locals, Md Matiar Rahman, deputy director of Mymensingh Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the fire occurred around 11:00am. On information, 10 fire fighting teams rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after an hour-long effort.

No casualties were reported. The cause behind the incident and the losses could not be known immediately, said the official.

"We are investigating into the incident to find out the real cause of the fire," he added.
