Fire service hamstrung by water shortage
Firefighters are struggling to bring the fire, which broke out at a cotton warehouse in Chhoto Kumira area of Chattogram's Sitakunda this morning, under control due to water shortage.
Abdul Malek, assistant director of Chattogram fire service, informed the above to The Daily Star. He said eight firefighting units are working at the spot.
"We are fetching water from three nearby ponds. There's no other reservoir here. Hence, we are struggling to douse the blaze. We have brought special water reserve from Agrabad fire service," he added.
The warehouse is situated on 1.94 acres of land, as per a signboard there. As there was no emergency entry or exit, firefighters had to make three separate entry points, reports our staff correspondent from the spot.
