N’ganj gas explosion claims third life

Another person, who was injured in an explosion due to a leak in the gas pipeline in Narayanganj's Araihazar on Friday, died at a city hospital early yesterday.

Sohan Talukdar, 45, breathed his last around 2:30am at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Tarikul Islam, resident surgeon of the hospital.

He had suffered burns all over his body, he said.

With his death, three out of four people injured in the explosion have died so far.

Earlier, Sohan's wife China Akhter, 40, and neighbour Kaniz Khadija Nipa, 39, died in a fire caused by the explosion.

Nipa's mother Hasina Mumtaz, 55, is still undergoing treatment at the burn institute in a critical condition.
