Murshidpur Darbar Sharif looted, torched

An unruly mob of over a hundred once again attacked the Doja Pirer Darbar, also known as Murshidpur Darbar Sharif, in Sherpur Sadar upazila, yesterday.
This marks the second attack on the shrine in three days.
On Tuesday, a clash ensued following an attack on the shrine which resulted in one casualty.
Yesterday's attack continued for some three hours during which the mob torched the shrine reportedly before looting it.
On Tuesday morning, they attacked the shrine, leaving more than 10 persons injured.
One of the injured, identified as Hafez Uddin, 40, a local resident, died at a Dhaka hospital on Wednesday.
His namaz-e-janaza was scheduled at the local Jamshed Ali Memorial Degree College ground, half a kilometre away from the shrine, at 10:00am yesterday.
Before the janaza, funeral attendees got enraged, leading to the attack on the shrine.

Police, Rab, and army personnel deployed in the area tried to avert the situation but were overwhelmed by the number of attackers.
Contacted, Sherpur Superintendent of Police Md Aminul Islam said additional police personnel were deployed in the area.
Md Jubaidul Alam, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Sadar Police Station, said a case was filed over Tuesday's attack against 25 named and 500 unidentified others.
"Two people have already been arrested and sent to jail."
No case was filed over Hafez's death till filing of this report yesterday, he added.
