Rab arrests 2 suspected human traffickers from Paltan
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today said they arrested two members of a gang suspected to be involved in human trafficking from Dhaka's Paltan this afternoon.
The arrestees are Rahmat Ullah alias Razu, 42, the suspected kingpin of the gang, and his associate Beauty Begum, 35, said Farzana Haque, media officer of Rab-3.
The arrestees admitted to running a recruiting agency without any permission from relevant authorities, said the official.
They took money from unemployed youths to send them to Saudi Arabia promising jobs with high salaries but instead they embezzled the money, the Rab official said.
Sometimes, they sent job seekers to Saudi Arabia but their counterparts held them captive and tortured them there, Farzana said adding that the gang extorted money from the victim's family promising to release them.
