Stolen case docs sold at Tk 16 per kg

The case documents that went missing from the corridor in front of the Public Prosecutor's room at Chattogram Metropolitan Court were sold at a scrap shop in the Patharghata area for Tk 16 per kilogramme.
Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Abdul Karim told this to media after police recovered nine sacks of the missing case documents yesterday.
After analysing CCTV footage from the court over the past two days, police detained a young man and recovered the missing files based on his confession, he added.
Police said the detainee used to sell tea on the court premises but did not disclose his name.
On January 5, case documents of 1,911 cases went missing from the Chattogram court building, causing a stir in the court area.
Lawyers said these documents were crucial for cases and their disappearance could severely impede justice, reports UNB.
The documents were stolen between December 13 and December 31 during the court's vacation period.
