Bangladesh's Agartala embassy resumes visa-related works

Dhanmondi 32 demolition

The Bangladesh mission in Agartala has announced the resumption of all visa and consular services from tomorrow, after a break of over two months.

"All visa and consular services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala will resume on 5th February, 2025," the mission said in a notification, signed by Md Al Ameen, first secretary and head of the Assistant High Commission in Agartala.

The visa and other consular services were stopped after protesters breached security barriers and trespassed into the Bangladeshi mission on December 3 last year protesting alleged atrocities on minorities and arrest of former ISKCON member Chinmoy Das following the ouster of Awami League-led government in Bangladesh.

The protesters removed the Bangladesh flag and attempted to damage property.

In a sharp reaction, Bangladesh had urged India to take immediate action against protesters.

India expressed regret over the incident and issued a statement saying the incident "is deeply regrettable. Diplomatic and consular properties should not be targeted under any circumstance."
