UN fact-finding report on July uprising rights violations on Feb 13

The UN Human Rights Office is set to launch the fact-finding report on the human rights violations and abuses centring the July uprising on February 13.
High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk is expected to launch the report in Geneva.
The audio of the news conference will be broadcast live on UN Web TV, said UN the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in a press release today.
Rory Mungoven, chief of the Asia-Pacific Section, Jyotsna Poudyal, human rights officer, and Ravina Shamdasani, chief spokesperson of OHCHR, will also be present.
The UN fact-finding mission began investigating into human rights violations between July 1 and August 15.
The five-member delegation deployed by the UN Human Rights Office at the invitation of the interim government began conducting an independent and impartial investigation on September 16.
The mission visited various parts of the country and spoke to the individuals, groups and organisations to gather first-hand information concerning the period of July 1 to August 15, 2024 and human rights violations and abuses during that time.
The OHCHR has already shared the report with the interim government, which has in turn provided its feedback.
The investigation by the UN fact-finding mission can be used as a reference point for further investigation and its recommendations may be useful for Bangladesh to improve its human rights status, including the reforms in the law enforcement agencies, a foreign ministry official said.
