KU renames 13 halls, buildings

Khulna University authorities have renamed 13 significant buildings, including two residential halls, the gymnasium, and both new and old administrative buildings.

Notices have been issued in this regard by the public relations office of the university.

The renamed structures include Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib Hall, the under-construction Joy Bangla Academic Building, Sultana Kamal Gymnasium, Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Administrative Building, and Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Building, among others.

This decision was unanimously made in the 230th meeting of the KU Syndicate, and the renaming was officially executed yesterday.

Founder VC Professor Golam Rahman inaugurated the nameplate of the administrative building named after him.

Earlier, a committee was formed to propose new names for various halls and buildings. Professor ATM Zahiruddin signed a public announcement calling on students, teachers, officers, and staff to propose new names in place of politically biased ones by December 17.

Vice-Chancellor Md Rezaul Karim said that the "July Revolution" had paved the way for a new beginning. Responding to student demands, the university is renaming buildings.

He added that the contributions of Professor Golam Rahman to the initial development and excellence of Khulna University are unforgettable. Hence, the old administrative building has been named in his honour.

Ishraq, a student of the Statistics Discipline, stated, "Our university is free from student politics. We don't want to see anything related to politics on our campus. Khulna University should not be a place for partisan politics."
