KUET suspends 5 professors for 'obstructing' student movement
Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has suspended five professors over allegations of obstructing the anti-discrimination student movement.
The decision was made during the university's 94th syndicate meeting held earlier this month.
The suspended professors are Mechanical Engineering Professor Dr Mihir Ranjan Halder, Civil Engineering Professor Dr Muhammed Alamgir, Physics Professor Dr Shivendra Shekhar Shikder, Mechanical Engineering Professor Dr Sobhan Mia, Computer Science and Engineering Professor Dr Pintu Chandra Sheel.
They have been accused of actively obstructing the anti-discrimination student movement, being involved in student-teacher harassment, spreading political influence, and violating Section 44(5) of the KUET Act, 2003. The allegations were found to be true following a preliminary investigation.
In addition, six officers and one staffer have been suspended for allegedly securing appointments through illegal means.
The university authorities have stated that further investigations are underway to confirm these allegations and take necessary legal actions if needed.
