Dutch trade delegation to visit Bangladesh to boost textile collaboration

A Dutch trade delegation comprising 19 companies will visit Bangladesh from February 10 to 13 to strengthen business-to-business collaboration in the country's garment and textile sector.

The mission will include representatives from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, apparel brands, impact investors, and companies specializing in traceable solutions to promote circular fashion.

The Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), in collaboration with Export Partner, Clean & Unique, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), and the Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE), is organizing the visit.

This is the first trade mission to Bangladesh under the Netherlands Circular Textile Programme.

As part of the visit, the delegation will participate in the 6th Sustainable Apparel Forum (SAF) 2025 and meet with BGMEA representatives. They will also visit ready-made garment (RMG) and textile factories in Savar and Gazipur to explore trade and investment opportunities that drive job creation, knowledge exchange, and business growth.

André Carstens, head of mission at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, said Bangladesh has established itself as a formidable force in the global textile market and is recognized as the world's second-largest textile exporter.

"The textile sector is crucial to economic growth and has thrived despite numerous global and local challenges," he said.

Carstens noted that the RMG and textile industry is taking proactive steps toward sustainability by investing in circularity and green factories. Recognizing this potential, the Netherlands launched the Circular Textile Programme to support the sector's transformation.

"The trade mission between Bangladeshi manufacturers and Netherlands-based companies is a significant step toward bridging technology gaps and fostering strong business relations," he said.

"Through business-to-business collaboration, capacity building, piloting innovative practices, and cross-border dialogue, the programme aims to integrate circular practices across the textile value chain, improve textile waste management, enhance labor conditions, and maximize recycling."

He added that Dutch innovations in recycling, traceability technologies, and circular design could be adapted to the Bangladeshi context, while Bangladesh's expertise in large-scale manufacturing and local recycling methods provides valuable insights.
